Paint Protection Film After Care
It’s very useful to learn these basic details about how to maintain your Paint Protection Film and follow the aftercare instructions for the first seven days after you have it installed on your car.
1. Please do not wash the car for the first seven days after PPF installation. The moisture between the film and the vehicle's surface is still evaporating. The edges are drying at this time. Hence any type of moisture, especially shampoos, on your car must be avoided to allow the adhesive to stick to the paint perfectly.
2. During this period of curing the film, you may notice a few bubbles, or a slight haze over the film, as the moisture evaporates through the pores of the film in the next 2-3 weeks. Be prepared to see some bubbles appearing and disappearing during the wet method of installation.
3. As soon as the film has cured, you can start washing your car normally (preferably with a twin bucket method and a wash mitt). When using a pressure washer, make sure to keep the spray lance at least 3 feet away from the surface of the film to avoid lifting the film’s edges with the pressure of the water.
4.Immediately remove bug splatter or bird droppings on the car surface. If they are left on the surface of the film for too long, the acids in the droppings could etch the self-healing layer of the PPF, plus the heat of the car might accelerate this process. Use pressurized water from a distance of 3 feet to remove this splatter. Another alternative includes pouring warm water on the area, leaving it to soften for a bit, then gently wiping the splatter off with a microfiber cloth.
5.If you regularly polish or wax your car, you need to be aware of some restrictions on what products you can use. Never use polishes containing abrasives, petroleum, or solvents, as they can damage the self-healing layer of the film. You must carefully select your products, preferably avoiding products containing natural waxes. Even resin-based products must be avoided, as they can cause a haze on the surface of the Paint Protection Film.
6. You need to be aware that surface scratches and swirl marks on the film will heal quickly over a short period. However, if you wish to hasten this process, you can pour warm water (not boiling) on the specific area to help the outermost layer of the film to return to its original condition.
